Passion Press: Life Behind the Lens

The next passion I am sharing is a newer one I’m still learning and love the different ways folks can express themselves through this lens…

Photography

I’ve always loved taking photos, having my photo taken (yes…I am vain and a tad self centered I know) and capturing moments around me.

I’ve written about them a handful of times, but my grandfather had an old film camera that was broken and on display at his house that I played with soooo many times. I thought it was so cool and wanted to be a Nat Geo Wild photographer. After he passed in 2017, I kept asking my mom where that camera went. I wanted to get it fixed and use it. It’s never been found (I’m convinced it’s in a box in the attic at my parents but attics are scary 😨).

In 2023, I moved back to California and found a similar 1970s Fujica film camera on Facebook Marketplace for $50! I felt this was my time to drop into this dream hobby of mine. I purchased that camera and have been learning about film photography, aperture, lighting, and camera types since.

Let me tell you, film is not easy! But it’s so cool to get a glimpse of what other photographers see, capture, and share from their perspective and lens.

ANYWAY….

Here are a few shots I’ve taken on my 35mm film camera that I’m pretty proud of. I love nature and capturing the world around me. There’s so much beauty all around us, and I’m so passionate about sharing the views that inspire me and move me, and learning about this delicate process of film photography.

“Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…”
